Here are our four tips for getting your home sold this fall and winter.
First, resist the urge to buy every pumpkin, gourd, cinnamon broom, Christmas light, and blow-up display you see. I know that stuff is fun, but when you list your home in fall and winter, you want to show off its curb appeal, how beautiful it looks on the inside, and how beautiful it will be during all seasons and holidays. Keep most of your seasonal decor boxed away and save it for your new home.
Second, make your home’s space inviting—both inside and outside. On the outside, you can do that by having great curb appeal. On the inside, you can put a couple extra throws on the bed or the couch or have a couple extra seasonal pillows lying around. Buyers love stuff like that, and if you make them feel cozy from the moment they walk in the door and want to buy the house with everything in it, the chances of you snagging an offer go up tremendously.
You can also use seasonal fruit as decorations. A big bowl of pomegranates or apples on the kitchen table will go far in creating the cozy feeling you want.
Third, prepare your fireplace for the seasons. Obviously, having a roaring fire going during a showing or a chilly open house is ideal for creating a great atmosphere, but there are other ways you can use your fireplace to accentuate your home’s aesthetic.
Even if it’s not quite time to use your fireplace, you can still prepare it to look nice during the fall. If you’re not ready to build a fire, you can always buy a stack of birch logs and stack them up inside it. You’ll be amazed at how big of an impact cleaning out your fireplace has as far as allowing people to imagine what fall and winter are like in your home.
Lastly, use fall scents to your advantage. Who doesn’t love pumpkin scents? The flavors of fall are unmistakable, but they can also be overpowering. Use them, but use them lightly. Doing so will create a powerful connection to buyers. Going into the holiday season, any Christmas tree scents are also wonderful to have in your home.
